Cherishing Life’s Chimes

Ten thousand stories I have to tell,

Some things I picked up around a wishing well.

I heard ten different stories a thousand times

Little tips on know-how and to cherish life’s chimes.

They said that’s life it’s the way it goes

Sometimes you get it right

Sometimes you don’t know

Just put on a smile

Go with the flow

Put one foot ahead

Find a way to go.

You know its love when your heart breaks

You can’t help sometimes from being late

Sift through the keepers and lose the fakes

Hold on to mementos from picnics by the lake.

They said that’s life it’s the way it goes

Sometimes you get it right

Sometimes you don’t know

Just put on a smile

Go with the flow

Put one foot ahead

Find a way to go.

Find a hobby that will keep you sane

Don’t watch lightning through the windowpane

Jump on a pile of leaves you’ve raked

Stop holding on to things that hate

Dance in the city in the pouring rain

Remember it’s okay to tear the pain.

They said that’s life it’s the way it goes

Sometimes you get it right

Sometimes you don’t know

Just put on a smile

Go with the flow

Put one foot ahead

Find a way to go.

Just do what you do

Go with the flow

Put on a smile

Find a way to go.

I wrote this poem (also intended as a song) many moons ago. I originally posted it on Cherishing Life’s Chimes  but wanted to share it here on bright blue balloon.

What did you believe before breakfast?

Since childhood Alice in Wonderland (by Lewis Carroll) has continued to top my list of favourites. I love the whimsical world of imagination. A place where perspectives are turned upside-down to reveal any possibility. I also really love the tea party. (Tea has also topped my list of favourites since childhood – I always wondered why waiters would smile so much when I ordered a pot of tea instead of a soda).

Childhood is a magnificent time, where imagination drives reality, anything really is possible. I love listening to Owen’s (age 4) stories and being apart of his imaginary play. I think to myself but trains don’t fly and I don’t think your teacher was eaten by a dinosaur (this was Owen’s response when I wondered why his teacher had left). I of course play along with his imaginary play and bask in it. How wonderful to believe that anything is possible.

I am not the first to ask the question: when do we stop believing in the impossible? I assume is very subjective and different for everyone.

“Alice laughed: “There’s no use trying,” she said; “one can’t believe impossible things.”
“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

Sometimes we forget to believe not just what is possible but what is impossible. I have added this quote to our ‘sticky note wall of wisdom‘. A reminder to believe in the impossible.

Thanks for making me the one you call Mummy/Mama

It means so much to be your Mummy,

I hope you know.

The privilege is mine as I watch you grow.

Your hand grows in mine and my heart smiles but pangs at the same time.

Too quickly you want independence,

To show me what you can do.

I know you can,

Anything you want,

Anything you dream.

It means so much to be your Mummy,

I hope you know.

You chose me and I’m honoured, truly

Words can’t express it fully.

Every step you take,

Every milestone

Every first, second and hundredth

Ill be there watching, smiling, celebrating.

Thank you for choosing me to be the one you call Mummy/Mama.

Happy Mother’s day to all the lovely Mums out there! I wrote this for the two little people who made me a Mummy.

Braver, Smarter, Stronger…

Say this aloud with me “you are braver than you believe, smarter than you seem and stronger than you think.” (A.A. Milne)

It’s true, you know. The wisdom of Winnie-the-Pooh (A. A Milne) cannot be denied. Unfortunately negativity is an easier default and too often self doubt creeps in and takes hold. When this happens a reminder is required and welcomed to let you know that you are in fact braver, smarter, stronger. My lovely husband sent this quote to me recently and it served as much needed reset button.

I have put this quote on what is to become ‘sticky note wall of wisdom’ (our fridge). This being the first of many reminders, pick-me-ups, uplifts of positivity.

If you have an awe-inspiring quote that serves as your own reset button please share below we would love to hear it 🙂

Jacaranda Tree

Seeds held in nature’s case
Ready to be free, to accept the wind
And land in a place meant-to-be
Time it takes to grow and bloom
Worth the wait
Soon enough the streets are lined
Multiple friends standing side by side, entwined
A tunnel formed
An invitation to journey through
Look up and see glory
A mural of pure beauty
Purple petals rain down and blanket the ground,
Like snow in a wonderland
Wonderment in this moment
Journey round and repeat again.

“Your mountain is waiting…”

Oh, The Places You’ll Go! by Dr Seuss never ceases to inspire me. A copy was gifted to my son Owen by a Great Aunty when he was born. Both myself and husband often read it to the boys when we too are in need of inspiration. This quote in particular always lights a fire. I can imagine writing it in cards for the boys when they celebrate important milestones like the first day of school or university.

Your adventure awaits, it wont all be plain sailing but its yours for the taking. You just need to take the first step. “Oh the places you’ll go!”

“So…
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea,
you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!”
